 As part of celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Consulate General of India in Birgunj organized a discussion on trading issues across India-Nepal border at Hotel Vishuwa. It was attended by representatives of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jitpur-Simra Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Makwanpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Janakpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry. A few businessmen from Birgunj, Hetauda and Janakpur and Customs officials from both Indian and Nepalese side, the officials of the Consulate and Land Ports Authority of India also participated in the discussion.   

2. The topics of discussion included development of infrastructure across the border, establishment of testing laboratories in Raxaul, requirement of value addition for export from Nepal, facilitation of vehicles through ICP, ease of motor vehicle permits, upgradation of Raxaul airport, ease of exchange of currency, renovation of Maitree bridge, upgradation of road and railway siding on the Indian side, setting up of help desk for business, etc. Some local issues were resolved during the discussion and the other chronic issues were noted by the concerned for their speedy redressal.
