Kathmandu: Amid aggressive summer marketing campaigns, Livpure Air Coolers distributed in Nepal by Smart Appliances Pvt. Ltd., a sister concern of KL Dugar Group, are drawing criticism from consumers over performance expectations, durability concerns, and after-sales service challenges.
For the past three years, the company has been promoting Livpure Air Coolers as an affordable and “smart cooling solution” for rising temperatures. However, several consumers and market observers say the products may not fully deliver the level of cooling promised in advertisements, especially during extreme heat and humidity.
Despite claims of “powerful air delivery” and “uniform cooling,” users argue that air coolers generally struggle to match the effectiveness of air conditioners in densely populated urban areas where ventilation is limited. Experts note that desert coolers are more suitable for dry climates and may offer limited relief in humid conditions.
Questions have also been raised regarding the long-term durability of honeycomb cooling pads and motor performance during continuous operation. Some users complain that regular maintenance, water refilling, and cleaning requirements are often downplayed in promotional campaigns.
Consumer advocates further argue that the repeated emphasis on “low power consumption” and “inverter compatibility” may create unrealistic expectations among buyers who assume the products can provide uninterrupted high-performance cooling during prolonged power cuts.
Market competition in Nepal’s cooling appliance sector has intensified in recent years, with several international and local brands offering similar features at competitive prices. Critics say Livpure’s promotional messaging focuses heavily on branding and marketing buzzwords such as “smart cooling” while offering features that are already common across the industry.
There are also concerns about after-sales service accessibility outside major cities. Customers in some regions report delays in spare parts availability and technical support, especially during peak summer demand.
Analysts say consumers should carefully compare cooling capacity, room size compatibility, maintenance costs, warranty conditions, and service network reliability before purchasing any air cooler.
As temperatures continue to rise across Nepal, buyers are increasingly seeking practical and energy-efficient cooling solutions. However, industry observers stress that marketing promises should be matched by transparent performance standards and reliable customer support to maintain consumer trust.
