Kathmandu , vivo has officially launched its new vivo V70 smartphone in Nepal, but the premium pricing has already sparked criticism among consumers and market observers.
The company has priced the 12/256 GB variant of the device at Rs. 53,999, while the 12/512 GB variant costs Rs. 64,999. Despite highlighting features such as a 50 MP ZEISS Super Telephoto Camera, 4K 60 fps video recording, a 6500 mAh battery, and a 120 Hz OLED display, many consumers argue that the price is too high for the Nepali market.
Critics say smartphone brands are increasingly relying on flashy camera features, celebrity-style marketing, and limited-time gifts to justify steep prices. In the case of the vivo V70, the company is offering free earbuds, screen replacement, water damage protection, and even an EV scooter giveaway to attract early buyers.
However, many believe such offers are being used to divert attention from the device’s high cost. Some consumers have also raised concerns about the growing trend of 0% EMI schemes, saying they may encourage people to spend beyond their financial capacity.
With Nepal’s economy still under pressure and consumer purchasing power weakening, the launch of another nearly Rs. 1 lakh smartphone has triggered debate over whether brands are focusing more on luxury marketing than affordability.
Although vivo has positioned the vivo V70 as a premium flagship device, many potential buyers say its price puts it beyond the reach of ordinary consumers.
