Kathmandu: Sagar Distillery has relaunched NEPSE Bulls, bringing a familiar Nepali whisky name back to the market with a renewed focus on provenance, character and rarity.
The relaunch is built around a single line of intent: “A Fine Expression of Scottish Rare Malt.”
Rare Malt is not a formal legal category in Scotch whisky. Rather, it represents a long-established tradition of selecting exceptional malts based on their origin, character and scarcity. For NEPSE Bulls, the concept is being used to tell a story about the whisky’s ingredients and the limited nature of the malt used in its blend.
At the heart of the new NEPSE Bulls is a 10-year-old Rare Malt, described by Sagar Distillery as a blend of malt whiskies from Scotland’s Highland and Speyside regions. The blend also includes whisky from a distillery that is no longer in operation.
According to the company, only a few thousand litres of this particular malt remain, of which NEPSE Bulls uses a small fraction. The company says this combination of diverse provenance, bold character and limited availability gives the whisky a distinctive identity.
A New Generation of Whisky Drinkers
The relaunch comes at a time when Nepal’s whisky market is seeing a more curious and internationally exposed generation of consumers.
Many Nepali whisky drinkers now travel widely and encounter established whisky cultures in cities such as Singapore, Dubai and London. Along with premium products, they are increasingly interested in understanding where a whisky comes from, how it is made and what makes it distinctive.
Sagar Distillery believes the premium whisky conversation in Nepal is therefore moving beyond price.
“They have been sold premium as a price point. They have rarely been sold it as a story.”
Rather than introducing an entirely new name, Sagar Distillery has chosen to evolve a brand that Nepali consumers already recognize, while introducing a different narrative around what is inside the bottle.
The company describes the approach as an attempt not to make whisky “louder,” but more meaningful and worth exploring.
“Not something louder. Something worth knowing.”
With its renewed positioning around Scottish Rare Malt, NEPSE Bulls is seeking to open a new chapter for a familiar name—one centered not only on premium whisky, but also on the story of its provenance, character and rarity.
