Kathmandu: Parents have expressed dissatisfaction after Kathmandu-based Millesberry International School sent bills covering both October and November, including a period when students will not be attending classes due to the Dashain holiday.
According to one parent, the school sent a message asking for immediate payment of fees covering the upcoming month of November as well, despite the extended holiday period during the festive season. Parents say receiving bills for two months at once has added financial pressure at a time when families are already facing increased expenses due to the festivals.
Parents have particularly questioned the inclusion of meal charges for the holiday period, when students will not be attending school and therefore will not be consuming meals provided by the school. The school reportedly charges up to NPR 4,200 per month for meals for preschool-level students alone.
“If the child does not attend school and does not eat the school-provided meals during the holiday, why should we have to pay the meal charges for that period?” one parent questioned.
Parents say their main concern is not the tuition fee itself but the collection of meal charges for a period when the service is not being used. They have also complained that they do not have an effective channel through which to raise their concerns regarding the school’s fee structure.
