Kathmandu – Global technology giant Xiaomi has opened pre-orders for its new Xiaomi 17T smartphone in Nepal, but the device’s premium price tag of NPR 69,999 has triggered mixed reactions among consumers and market observers.
While the Xiaomi 17T boasts Leica-powered cameras, a 6.59-inch AMOLED display, a 6,500mAh battery and MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity 8500-Ultra chipset, many consumers have questioned whether the latest offering provides enough upgrades to justify its price in an increasingly competitive smartphone market.
Industry analysts say the handset enters a crowded premium segment where buyers have several alternatives offering comparable specifications. Some users have also expressed concerns that the bundled pre-order gifts, including Redmi Buds 6 Play and Xiaomi Tag, may not be enough to offset the device’s high cost.
Despite Xiaomi highlighting its Leica-engineered imaging system and advanced cooling technology, critics argue that incremental improvements over previous generations could make it difficult for the company to attract price-sensitive customers in Nepal.
The pre-order campaign runs from May 29 to June 6, with the device available in Violet, Blue and Black color options in a 12GB RAM and 512GB storage configuration.
As competition intensifies in Nepal’s smartphone market, Xiaomi will face the challenge of convincing consumers that the Xiaomi 17T offers value worthy of its nearly NPR 70,000 price tag.
