Kathmandu, Royal Enfield has launched the Classic 350 Gorkha Edition in Nepal, using the country’s celebrated Gorkha heritage, bravery and military tradition as the central theme of its latest premium motorcycle.

The motorcycle comes in a distinctive Gorkha Green colour and carries a crossed-Khukuri insignia inspired by Gorkha tradition. While the company describes the edition as a tribute to courage, resilience and honour, the launch also raises questions about the growing commercialisation of Nepal’s historical and cultural identity.

Priced at NPR 499,000, the special edition is positioned as a premium motorcycle. For many Nepali consumers, however, the price may make the much-publicised Gorkha tribute less accessible to the very community whose heritage is being used to promote the product.

Royal Enfield has also introduced a separate Gorkha Collection, featuring riding boots, helmets, headgear, apparel and lifestyle accessories. The collection incorporates elements such as crossed Khukuris and Nepali Dhaka-inspired patterns.

The company says the Classic 350 Gorkha Edition retains the motorcycle’s familiar design, upright riding position and J-series engine, while adding an Assist & Slipper Clutch for smoother gear changes.

Royal Enfield’s Chief Commercial Officer Yadvinder Singh Guleria said the edition was designed to honour a heritage associated with bravery, loyalty and honour.

Alpha Automotive Managing Director Harsh Wardhan Sanghai also said the company expects the motorcycle and Gorkha Collection to appeal to Nepali riders who value authenticity and heritage.

However, beyond the marketing narrative, the key question remains: is the Gorkha legacy being genuinely celebrated, or is Nepal’s emotional connection with its history simply being turned into a premium commercial product?

At NPR 599,000, the Classic 350 Gorkha Edition will be available through authorised Royal Enfield dealerships across Nepal.
